Luna Park

On Monday I treated a friend to a meal at Luna Park, a Los Angeles restaurant in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood. I snagged a Groupon as soon as I saw it because I've been wanting to try this place for a few years now. Although known for their bottomless sangria and mimosas, we went in for dinner...but I plan on heading back for the all-you-can-drink specials soon.

The atmosphere was pretty cool. Dark and cozy. I liked that despite the fact it was dinnertime, it wasn't packed and there were a good number of patrons. Then again, Monday was a default holiday so that may be why.

I also liked the adorable old fashioned Dr Pepper bottle they gave me. I wanted to keep it to put a flower in at home but I completely forgot.

And the food? I ordered the El Camarone which is listed as "Rock Shrimp, Mozzarella, Chili Flakes, Baby Arugula and Aioli" and I was intrigued. The flavors were different and very interesting. I think the combo of the chili flakes and aioli made for a tasty treat.

When it came time for dessert the menu had me at "Make Your Own S'mores"! Sold. Although I was psyched to order, the actual eating part was a bit messy. Because the marshmallows were cooked to an almost liquid state they started to firm up again and it's a bit messy getting the gooey goodness out of the bowl. The chocolate was completely melted so it was hard to keep it on the graham cracker. It was pretty good but I wouldn't order it again.

My one complaint for the night was that valet didn't have the proper change and took extra to accommodate for that. I should have caught it before I tipped though, so that's also my fault.

All in all, it was a pretty good experience and I'll certainly go back to Luna Park again. Maybe for breakfast so I can enjoy the bottomless mimosas.

That looks good. The make your own s'mores is genius!

Looks like you need to go back, just to get a Dr Pepper bottle, of course. ;)

I love the SF Luna Park (on Valencia and 18, in the Mission)! Their macaroni & cheese with broccoli is so good, and they have some pretty great salads as well. I like the ambience, cocktails, etc. too . . . reminds me to make a trip there soon!

Sounds like a fun night {minus the valet and smores}. I've never heard of the place, but maybe we'll need to try it someday :)

It's always nice to try a new restaurant, especially when you can get a deal on it through Groupon. The restaurant looks very swanky and I'm loving the decor.

Even though it was messy, the s'mores dessert looks very good. I love anything involving marshmallows!
