Do You Like Scary Movies?

Can you believe we are already in mid-October? Time flies when you're having a freightfully good time! [insert evil laugh]

A haunted hayride, Knott's Scary Farm, what's next on my list of creepy to-dos? Horror flicks!

A few bloggin' buds have posted their favorite Halloween/scary movies so I am going to play along and steal the idea.

On that note and in no particular order:

Copycat (pun intended ;)
Vacancy
The Strangers
Fallen
Seven
Hocus Pocus
Sleepy Hollow
The Skeleton Key
The Others
Scream
Urban Legend
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Halloween
H2O
The Labyrinth
IT
Storm of the Century

As you can see I am a sucker for Stephen King and Kevin Williamson. Who is psyched for Scream 4 to come out?! I sure am! And as far as Stephen King, aka The King of Horror, Storm of the Century is AMAZING. It was a made for TV movie that isn't as popular as most of his other works but in my opinion it's his best work, that I am aware of at least. This blows away The Shining and Carrie for me. If you can find it at your local movie store, I highly recommend it. I know it's available on Netflix because i just added it to the top of my queue.

...And I was just sidetracked for a good 30 minutes adding horror films to my queue.

I love scary movies but hate seeing blood and gore. I literally can't handle when someone gets punched in a movie. Freaks me out. Doesn't make much sense that I like thrillers does it?
I guess it's the suspense.

Speaking of suspense, I love this time of year becuase I can set my ringtone to the theme song of Halloween!

Anyways, what are your favorite scary movies? I know I missed a bunch. Please share though. I'd love to discover some new ones.

  1. I dislike the gory movies too - I love movies that can actually scare me (I probably laughed through the entire Texas Chainsaw Massacare - the one with Jessica Biel in it). But hmm, I remember Darkness Falls freaked me out a bit when I was younger. lol

  3. I LOVE scary movies; however, I sometimes get totally freaked when I see the killer wearing a mask. Certain masks I'm okay with - like the Scream one; but "The Strangers"...ohmigosh those masks are terrifying! :P

  4. I just saw [REC] which is the original Spanish film Quarantine was remade from. It's about a news crew, camera man and reporter, who go to a firehouse. The firehouse gets a call and all of the sudden they are quarantined in the building because of an outbreak. It's all from the point of view of the camera man. AMAZING!Scary and great film-making to boot!

I saw Paranormal Activity too. I thought the last 10 minutes were creepy. Enough said!

  5. I hate scary movies! Well I love them when I'm with a bunch of friends and we're all squished on the couch in my basement, eating popcorn and cracking up over stupid scenes. Then when all the friends are gone, it's dark out and I'm alone in my room? HATE that I watched them, haha!

I still love "House of 1000 Corpses" though. Have you seen it? It's gory and ridiculous, but still with a sense of humor. Def my favorite scary movie!

  13. We have very similar taste. I hate gory movies, so these thrillers would be about all I can handle (unless it's a cheezy 80s flick!).

  22. I am so sorry I’m just now catching up on your blog. Life has been very hectic. Boo!

Love scary movies and this post. A good horror flick fits the bill anytime of the year. I forgot all about Vacancy. That was a surprisingly good flick. Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Strangers make my list as well.

I’ve never heard of Storm of the Century and I’m a Stephen King fan. Shame on me ;) I bet Geof has seen this and I’ll have to check that out. I’m really excited for Scream 4.

Here are some others that make my list: The Ring and the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
