A Day at Disneyland

Disneyland 60th Anniversary

Earlier this week I went to Disneyland for the first time in almost a decade! I used to have an annual pass but didn't renew when I moved to LA (since it's a bit of a trek in traffic) and then when I moved closer the prices were so high I refused. For the two highest passes, which you might as well get because that's the only way you can park for "free", it's $849 and $1,049. That's insane! The highest pass, the Signature Plus, jumped $200 in price last year. I'm sorry, I just can't.

I have been wanting to visit for several years but on principle held out. But Wednesday I had family from out of state who wanted to visit so I bit the bullet and paid $105 to get into the Happiest Place on Earth. Here is my takeaway from spending a day at Disneyland:

  • Disneyland really is magical no matter how old you are.
  • The wait times and crowds are not so magical.
  • Have a plan on what rides to hit first (Pirates, Splash and Thunder Mountain are most popular).
  • Three major rides were broke down at the same time so that made it more hectic.
  • TOO MUCH STAR WARS! They've converted attractions and rides and are building more.
  • If you go for your birthday ask for a button and the cast will wish you happy birthday all day.
  • First-time visitors can also get a free button commemorating the occasion.
  • You'll be in a rush to get on all the rides but don't forget to take pictures (like I did!). Or, you'll want to take so many pictures you won't get on all of the rides. Balance it out!

Overall I'm glad I went, especially since it's currently the 60th anniversary. Hopefully my next trip will be sooner than a 10-year wait!

Have you been to Disneyland lately? What do you think about the prices?

The Disney in Orlando sounds just about the same! I'd like to go to Disneyland at least once but the prices and long wait times are definitely a big drawback.

It's definitely pricey but I think a pass is worth it if you plan on going often. Glad I'm not the only one who isn't all about Star Wars-- I never even liked Star Tours ride so I'm kinda ehh on everything Star Wars at the park-- it just doesn't feel 'Disney' to me. Glad you had a fun time!!

So much fun! Since Disney World is "in my backyard", and we've done the annual pass thing here I've always wanted to check out Disney Land too especially since it's the original park. Those prices are insane though! Disney World is much cheaper for an annual pass, and there are 4 parks you have access to instead of 1 or 2. But man I hear you on the long waits, crowds, and too much Star Wars! I feel like they're going overboard. Disney birthdays are the best :-D

the prices are ridiculous. i have been to disneyland once (and loved it!) and disney world three times. i live closer to neithe of them haha. all 4 trips were in the last 7 years and i'd be good if i didn't go back for another 7-10 years lol, or until we have kids. i love disney, the parks are so fun, but the prices really are insane.

I hear ya. I love Disneyland but I simply don't understand how its prices went up so fast and so high!! There's millions of people visiting anyways...no need to make us spend so much. It's gotten ridiculous. Last time I went was 2013 and I miss it but I'm ok saving my money for something else at the moment. However, that is not to say that I am not looking forward to my next visit.
