Free Music

Hey guys! My co-worker, Chris Mathieu, just released a song today and it's really good. And I'm not just saying that. Please take a moment to take a listen for yourself and click on the link to download for FREE. Yup, it's free. So you have nothing to lose...unless you don't download and you miss out on an amazing song...

This talented dude is an actor, too. So he's a double threat that's probably going to be famous. Don't you want to say you discovered Chris before the rest of the world?! yes, you do ;)

Fall Has Never Been Hotter

In honor of the sweltering LA heat, here's my ode to the sizzling men on TV this fall season. I still can't believe that Monday broke the record of hottest day in LA. A fall day is the hottest in history...hmm. Anyways, on to the important hotness. In no particular order, here are the guys that cause me to get all steamy:

Apparently I like brunettes, never realized. Am I missing a hottie? If so, please tell me so I can internet stalk ;)

Other exciting news: I was given another award by Kristen of Behold the Meatron! She created the award and everything. I am so happy, thanks lady :)

If you haven't discovered Behold the Meatron, you should check it out! She blogs about yummy food in NYC and around the world.

Hottest Day in LA History

Today it is 113 degrees in Los Angeles. That's literally the hottest day ever recorded in the City of Angeles! According to weather.com, since the temperature started being recorded in 1887, there has never been a hotter day in LA. I haven't been outside since I got to work. I'm sure that it'll still be scorching when I get off at 6.

I'm originally from a suburb south of LA that's generally 10 degrees hotter than the city. So I am used to this heat; however, I am also used to living in a home with an air conditioner. My old apartment does not have one. Last night I slept on my couch with a tiny fan pointing on me. Looks like the same goes for tonight.

Right now I am pretty much dreaming of anything cool.

What is the weather like everywhere else? Anyone actually experiencing fall?

Happy 101

I was recently given the Happy 101 award by Mimi of What Mimi Writes. If you haven't discovered her blog, do eeeeet! It's really entertaining :)

The Rules:
1) Thank the person(s) who gave you this award
2) Copy the icon on to your profile
3) State 10 things you like
4) Give this award to other bloggers and notify them with a comment

So here it goes...

311! For more info, check out my previous post.

Softball! Still play and been playing for 20 years.

TV! My top favs are The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Fringe, Life Unexpected...I could go on and on but at some point it just gets sad.

History! Especially that of the colonial period. One day live in New England.

Architecture! If it's an old building, like circa 1920s or older, I'm in love.

Traveling! Although I don't do it as much as I'd like. Excited for my trip to the Dominican Republic in December!!

Animals! I love them so much I gave up eating them lol! I'm weak though. I now eat chicken and fish :(

Black and white! Not sure why but if it's black and white I'm drawn to it.

Rain! We don't get much in LA so when it's gloomy I get excited. I'm only happy when it rains ;) I miss the band Garbage.

Fall! Leaves, Starbucks, Halloween. Too bad I have never seen a real fall.

I hate picking blogs for awards. I never know if people want to participate. Therefore, if anyone doesn't want to play I won't be offended. And if anyone wants to play along, please do!

Nick Hexum...My Perfect Man

I was in 7th grade when I heard the amazing sounds that came from MTV, playing on the TV in the other room. Instantly I had to check out who the music was coming from. That day I discovered my favorite band, 311. I was immediately sucked in by the melodies and soon thereafter I was hooked on the lead singer, Nick Hexum.

He is a god! I have had the biggest crush on him for about 15 years, since I was 12. From his changing hair colors (bleached hair on dudes used to be so hot!) to his changing girls (he was engaged to Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls), to his new family (he's now married with a one-year-old daughter), I have stuck by my man...he just doesn't know it! I have met him once so I have something to show for my decade and a half of lust.

I always see 311 when they are in town. In fact, I try to see them at least twice when they are on tour every summer. This year I finally went to 3-11 Day, a five hour concert held March 11 where the band performed 60 songs. EPIC!

Recently, I went to go see a show featuring Nick by himself. In the past 20 years that 311 has been together, he has only played three solo shows, all of which were this year. So seeing him was a must.
Nick HexumNick Hexum of 311Nick Hexum solo performanceUnfortunately the show wasn't what we thought it was going to be. It was more of a celebrity appearance than a performance...

We didn't get the memo about the venue being a club. Luckily our attire met the dress code - thanks to an extra pair of heels in my car. After we got in, we had to stand on the dance floor (not dancing because we were sober and not into it) and wait for Nick to perform. Four hours later he finally made an appearance. After highfives for those of us in the the front row he took to the stage. I have never been so close to any performers. Sometimes bands will jump into the crowd and you get close to them, but usually they aren't standing literally a foot from you. Many of my pictures are from the angle beneath Nick because I was so close looking up.

It was am amazing opportunity to be there. He only sang about six songs but it was such an unforgettable experience and worth it. My feet were barkin' at the end of the night and I wobbled out of the club but I am so thankful to have experienced it!

Check out this video that I took of Nick performing 311's take on Love Song by The Cure. Unfortunately it's sideways and I can't figure out how to fix. It shouldn't be that hard!

Disclaimer: I'm clearly joking about him being "my man". He's hot but I'm not delusional. Just want to put that out there!

Dominican Republic!

This weekend I learned that I am going to the Dominican Republic on a family vacation in December. Woo hoo!

Numerous people have explained that the beaches there are extremely beautiful. Many claim the most gorgeous in the world. When I went to Tulum in the Riviera Maya (you should totally check out that link to see my amazing trip a few years back) I was blown away by the color of the water. I cannot wait to see how this area of the Caribbean compares.

The trip will be all-inclusive and you best believe I am going to get my fill of food and alcohol. I am craving a Miami Vice already! The cool part about where we are staying at is that there are several hotels within the resort. We selected the highest hotel which means we can visit
any of the other hotels to check out the pools and eat at the restaurants.

I am super giddy with excitement. Here are pictures of the paradise that they call Punta Cana, all of which are from the resort.

ThreadScence

I won a giveaway! Woo hoo! I have actually won three giveaways in a week which is so not my luck. It happened the same week that I lost my wallet and phone so maybe it was the universe's way of cutting me some slack.

So you can only imagine how ecstatic I was when I received my ThreadSence package (thanks for picking me Cafe Fashionista)!! Not only were the items packaged in adorable vintage newspaper inspired wrapping, they also included a nice personalized note.

The items I received were the Off Balance Bar Ring, Studs and Spikes Ring in Brass, and Tubular Scarf in Yellow Plaid. Have already worn all of these items and adore them!

Sorry about my ugly, unpolished nails!

I never buy rings because I am weary that they will be uncomfortable when they are large; however, these rings are absolutely comfortable! I wore them to work and typed all day without any problems.

The scarf is awesome, too! It's basically one long circular shape. Both ends are sewn together. So I just fold it in two and it automatically makes two hoops around my neck. If that makes any sense...

I would totally purchase more items from this self-proclaimed indie site. The merchandise is cute, prices are good, customer service is friendly - everything you can ask for in an online store. Here are some adorable pieces:

A Rock Star Wedding

No literally, this bride married a real rock star!

This summer I met Kat at a work event. She's from Toronto and I'm from LA but I instantly connected with her. She's one of those people that is super sweet and bubbly, not to mention a hard worker!

When we met in July she mentioned her upcoming nuptials (which took place two weeks ago) and I knew her wedding would be amazing so I asked to see the photos after the big day. Here are a few of my fav pics.

I love her style - from the lace dress to the feathered hair piece.

Now if those aren't rocker chic, what is?!

Look at those happy faces!

Music notes on the cake!

Kat's wedding was so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your special day with us!
