Mid-Week Inspiration From 311

If you've followed my blog for some time, you may know I am obsessed with 311. Seen them around 25 times (maybe more) and have been a fan for nearly 20 years. The band's message is all about unity and positivity.

While most brush them off as a 90s band, 311 still has a huge following and tour every year, and put out new albums regularly. They even celebrate 311 Day (March 11, or 3/11) with fans. A few years back I went to 311 Day in Vegas and it was an AMAZING five-hour show!

Whether you're a 311 fan or not, I wanted to pass along some happiness in the form of my favorite lyric - trust your instincts and let go of regret. For me, this lyric helps me remember that even though life gets tough, I've got to do what's best for me and don't look back. I hope it inspires you, too!

Back From an Unexpected Hiatus

Hi! Remember me? It's been far too long. These last four months have been a little crazy. I started a new job in October and quit that job this week. My grandma was diagnosed with cancer Thanksgiving day and passed New Year's Eve. I let go of friendships that weren't positive and realized how many great people I do have in my life. Got rear-ended on the freeway. Interviewed the judges of The Voice and went to a taping of the Knockout Rounds. Talk about ups and downs!

The biggest thing I've realized  is life is far too short to be unhappy. Happiness is everything. Instead of doing what "I'm supposed to do" I'm taking the time to explore what I want to do. And guess what? I don't know what path is right for me just yet. But that's OK because I'm going to do some soul searching until I decide how I want to live my life.

It's probably going to take a little time for me to get back into the swing of blogging, and I may not get back to a daily routine, but I'm going to make an effort.

Be Done With the Rest

My 2014 goal is to be happy and to forget everything (and everyone) that stands in the way of that. I'm doing so-so. It's a lifestyle change, so I know it will take time. Small steps, starting with making an effort to do what's best for me and stop making excuses for why I let people treat me poorly. But, on that note, I need to be more assertive and hold myself more accountable. What's that saying about people only treating you the way you allow them to?

To keep myself on track I bought the print above, framed it, and placed it in a location that I see every single day. I'm hoping it serves to remind me that this is the year I start putting myself first.

Summer R&R

Oh, Monday. You always creep up so quickly, you sneaky jerk. At least I got a little R&R in this weekend. Saturday, I saw The Lone Ranger and had oysters and a lobster roll at one of my favorite restaurants. It was the perfect lazy summer afternoon. Sunday, I did a little shopping. And on both days I took a few naps. No complaints here!

Since we do have to start a new work week, here's a little inspiration to kick off your Monday!

Make a Wish

The last few years have been a roller coaster - ups and downs. That's life. But sometimes life doesn't go the way you want it. It's easy to just continue on a mundane path and that's what I've done. But I finally decided it was time to break away and make a change...wait did I just plagiarize that line from Kelly Clarkson?

Anyways, it was time to take control of my life - so I did. I am excited to announce that I got a new job! I'm getting back into writing and will be working for a fashion retail site. I'm super excited. But it's bittersweet. I'm going to have to leave LA and my friends here. I'll be jumping into a new routine for the first time in four years. And frankly, I'm just sacred because it all seems too good to be true. But it is true. And it's time for me to be happy!

I have a favorite 311 lyric that I try to live by. Maybe if you're in need of a little cheer it will help you:

You've got to trust your instinct and let go of regret. You've got to bet on yourself now star, because that's your best bet.

We really are stronger and braver and better than we tend to give ourselves credit for. Don't ever feel like you're not good enough or wish you'd done better. You can always make a change. You've just got to believe in yourself.
