WBTV Media Mixer

Last night Kate, of Nautical By Nature, and I had the pleasure of attending the Warner Bros. Media Mixer at a local bar in Hollywood - Sassafras. As always, it was a great time! We've been lucky enough to have some amazing WB experiences - visiting the Pretty Little Liars set, Meeting Rachel Bilson on-location of Heart of Dixie, a viewing of Gossip Girl's finale alongside the show's director, and more incredible events. So when I got the invite I was thrilled.

We talked PLL, The Following, and some new shows. Fun things in the future - stay tuned!

The Legends of the Summer

Welcome to another weekly installment of Monday Morning Gossip! Can we talk about how amazing my weekend was? I went with Kate of Nautical By Nature to see Justin Timberlake and Jay Z.

The tour is called The Legends of the Summer for a reason, because these two are mind-blowingly good. I've never been a huge Jay Z fan. That's not to say I dislike him. His music's cool but I'm just indifferent. And while I like JT enough, I had never bought any of his albums until this latest one and I don't love it. I think half of the songs are amazing and hate the other half. But I knew this concert was a must and had to see it. It was so much better than I could have imagined.

Jay Z was incredible. I am going to download all of his albums. I'm newly obsessed. Justin's voice is just as perfect live as recorded. He's the epitome of an entertainer. And the fact he's hot doesn't hurt. If you haven't seen them in concert, DO!!

I uploaded a few videos to Instagram, but couldn't figure out how to get them uploaded to the blog. If you want to see them, follow me, @jointhegossip!

This Weekend in Hollywood...

Aside from finding out my credit card info was stolen and used recently (I won't get into that), it was a pretty low-key but good weekend. I went shopping and picked up goodies from Forever 21 and Bath & Body Works...because nothing relieves the stress of some stranger charging hundreds of dollars fraudulently on your credit card than spending your own money.

Sunday night I went to Kate's (of Nautical By Nature) for her annual Oscar party. Although I live a block from the theater where the Oscars were held, and work on the same street, just buildings away, I've never been to see the red carpet. I should at some point just because I'm so close. One day! But Kate did a great job of making the night special. She's such a great host and had the most adorable decorations. Check out how cute everything was!

Penthouse Party

Friday was my company work party, hosted in the penthouse suite of the Roosevelt Hotel. This place was pretty amazing. We had to have a key made to get to the room, which was three stories, with the top story being the rooftop of the hotel. I wish I'd taken pictures of the inside because I can't even describe how awesome it was.

I took Kathrin of Shop.School.Sleep. with me as my "date" for the second year in a row. She's a trooper. Poor thing tried to make me pace myself but there were two open bars and I may have gotten a bit drunk. Luckily I only made an ass of myself in front of a few people instead of the whole company.

Not the best outfit pic

Here are a few more shots taken by the photographer. Their camera was much better than my iPhone.

Party Ready Under $30

Sequin Love From Forever 21

Forever 21 a line top / Forever 21 top / Mini skirt / Forever 21 skirt

If you're in need of a holiday outfit - be it a company party or New Years Eve bash - there's one place that'll never let you down: Forever 21. Maybe it's just me, but I can always find something at the wonderfully affordable store. Yeah, it's not made of the best materials. And it'd definitely not designer. But let's be real. It gets the job done and you'll get compliments. Two wins in my book.

As you can see I have a slight sequin issue. I understand that the pretty little disc shapes borderline on tacky, but since they're in style for the moment, I'm going to take full advantage of the trend. Who's with me? I mean, and with all of these pieces currently on the F21 site for under $30, how can you go wrong?

For more serious sparkle, link up with Long Distance Loving for Friday's Fancies!

And don't forget to come back Monday to join Sami's Shenanigans (who I think owns that last sequin skirt!) and I for our weekly link up, Weekend Update! We love meet new bloggers so stop by and say hello.

Unfortunately, to our surprise the colors pink and gold, along with glitter, are property of another blogger. We were sent the blog equivalent of a cease and desist. For the record we didn't copy anyone, by any means, and colors do not belong to anyone. But, instead of dealing with drama, because who wants to fight with bloggers (and frankly, who has time?!) we just decided to move along to a ANOTHER new button, designed yet again by the fabulous Aubrey of The Kinch Life Designs. So if you're linking up with us, here is the most recent Weekend Update button. Sorry for the inconvenience. See ya Monday, friends!

Weekend Update: Vegas Baby!

After a few weeks of planning, this Saturday we pulled off a great surprise party for my friend/sorority big sis! She lives in Vegas so me and a few of her friends loaded into a car, drove to her place and waited there while her sister got her out of the house for a few hours.

When she walked in and saw her friends and family there she was completely surprised! It was pretty awesome. We spent the rest of the day and night celebrating.

What did you do this weekend? Link up with Dana of five30three, Sami of Sami's Shenanigans, and me and tell us! Joining the Weekend Update blog hop is a great way to discover new blogs and make friends and it's easy to get involved. Please follow these rules:

1. Blog about your weekend.
2. Grab our button and add it to your post.
3. Add your link to the blog hop below.

That easy! Please, please follow the rules so we don't have to delete your post. We promise we're not mean, people have just been abusing the link up and not using it to talk about their weekends and/or visit others' blogs. If you ever have any questions about linking up, feel free to ask!

Holiday Party Tips

I was so excited when I received Leeann's email to guest post on Join the Gossip. I know I could never keep up with Leeann's fabulous post, but I thought I would give it a shot!

My name is Denice and I head up the blog KDC Events. My two best friends and I started planning parties a few years back. We have recently been on a break from physically planning parties (because I had a baby), but we have kept up the consulting and have continued to foster our idea wheel!

Today I am going to give you some tips for the upcoming holidays and hopefully I can help make them somewhat "stress free". These are my top tips that I have compiled over the last 10 years:

1) Deep clean your house a week before, and do touch ups the night before. This means you can't wait until the last minute to clean, it has to be ALL DONE a week before. This includes your laundry!

2) Do all of your food and decorative shopping 4 days before your party. When you get home, organize all of your party items off to the side (possibly on a dining room table or in a spare bedroom). Don't put them all away, keep them out and together.

3) Have your menu completely planned out. This includes appetizers, drinks, salad, bread, main course, sides, dessert, coffee, condiments, etc. Leave nothing to think about! Make a LIST!

4) Set all of your table(s) the night before. In fact, put out as many of the decorations you can the night before (as long as they will not get ruined or fall).

5) Have all of your meals, desserts, etc. made/prepared the day before or the morning of your party if possible. By doing this, you can have your dishes all done, and the mess cleaned up. All you will have to do is pop it in the oven, and not have to spend time preparing things, this means you get to be with your guests, not in the kitchen.

6) If any of the food can be cooked in a disposable dish, DO IT!! Then you can just toss it when you are done, thus eliminating the need to clean it.

7) Label what dishes will hold what items. This way if your guests help you, they will know where things go.

8) Have plenty of seating for all of your guests. If you invite 10 people to dinner, have a table set up to hold 10 people. If this requires you to borrow tables and chairs, get them a few days before hand, not the day of. Also try to make it personal, and use a fun place-card.

9) Enlist the help of a friend for clean up. Having someone to help you takes the pressure off of you to be the hostess Or host with the most! 4 hands are always better than 2, and much quicker. Be sure to have plenty of containers for left overs. This helps aids in a quick clean up.

10) 30 minutes before your guests are scheduled to arrive, light your candles, turn on your music, ice your drink glasses, and put out your appetizers. Sit down, pour yourself a drink and have a great time!

One side note: Always have a "Plan B". If you are planning to eat on your patio, plan for what you will do if it's too cold, too windy or too hot. Now you will not be frantic when you have to use it!

Well, there you have it. I am sure I could have gone on for DAYS!!! I love to entertain, and I love it when my friends say I make it look so easy. The truth is, it's not easy, I just am well prepared! If you take a little time to organize, plan, clean, and prepare, you can have a successful, stress free event that you will actually enjoy!

*hugs*
Denice

Happy Birthday...to Meeee!

It's my birthday, so I am allowed to be obnoxious and post beautiful birthday inspired pictures? Right? It's not my fault, I'm a Leo and it's what we do. No really, it's true. Read about Leos below!

Tonight I am going to grab dinner with some friends then head to a local Hollywood bar to celebrate. Recap and pictures to come - hopefully none of which display an inebriated me ;)

Interesting (sad) fact: Marilyn Monroe was found murdered on my birthday. Yes, I said murdered. I firmly believe the conspiracy theories, but we'll save that for another day!

A Dr. Seuss Themed Baby Shower

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the baby shower of my Delta Zeta sorority sister, Jenni. We may be a few years out of college but there are a core group of girls that I am so lucky to have met and still have in my life. Along with Jenni is one of my best friends, Susie, who put on the shower.

Susie, who was my college roommate in the CSUF DZ house, did an AH-mazing job with the shower. She transformed her home into a Dr. Seuss wonderland! From real life red fish, blue fish, to the green deviled eggs, to a live Cat in the Hat, the theme was present everywhere. Hands down the best baby shower I have ever attended.

Everyone in attendance was blown away by the decor and attention to detail. My favorite part was all of the games we played. I am so competitive and I love winning. But who doesn't?

Mommy-to-be and me!

Not gonna lie, I was scared of The Cat in the Hat...

Susie and me

Our hostess recently started making cakes and she does a great job. Her creativity excels above and beyond. My photo doesn't do justice to the cake she made for the shower. It was three tiers, all with their own flavors. And atop that cake? The Cat in the Hat, of course! Pretty great for someone who is new to cake making. I wouldn't be surprised if one day she goes into cake making professionally. I was trying to convince her to start planning parties!

If you are in need of a theme, I'd say a Dr. Seuss baby shower is the way to go.

On a fashion note: you can't really see my outfit but I was rockin' the Target. Kinda want to wear that outfit everyday! I picked up a boyfriend blazer for $20, tunic for less than $20, and borrowed a pair of my mom's pumps that she got for a steal at $20. You can't see the heels in the photos, so here they are:
